Project Graduation
March 4, 2008
Dear Parents,
In 1978 Project Graduation was started at Oxford Hills High School in South Paris, Maine after the tragic experience of seven alcohol and other drug related deaths during the commencement season. The school and community made it a point to avoid any other tragedies by starting a tradition of giving the senior class an all-night chemical free graduation celebration. Portland High School is proud to continue this tradition because alcohol is still the number one cause of deaths among teenagers.
We are Portland High School parents and our children are seniors this year. It is our responsibility to make sure we provide a safe and memorable evening. The planning committee is looking at having the kids attend an all night celebration at Howard Sports on the eve of June 4, 2008 from 8:00pm to 5:00am. The evening will include a giant blow up slide, velcro olympics, human foosball, human bowling, hypnotist, caricature artist, henna tattoos, dancing, games, sports, food and lots more.
In order to make this a success we need to raise $10,000 and we need your help. There are many ways in which you can help us with this project. The second page outlines the various activities with which we need a great deal of assistance. Our next meeting will be held on March 31st at 6:00pm at PHS. Please join us and bring any ideas you have.
Please look over the list carefully, and contact me to let me know how you can support our efforts. If we all work together, we will reach our goal. You may email me at wikek@portlandschools.org or call me at 874-8250 or 650-6531 to let me know how you would like to help. If you would like, feel free to send in the attached list with your son/daughter and check off how you would like to help.
Thanks again for your support! Sincerely,
Kimberly A. Wike, Project Graduation Advisor
